INSPRATIOn
My artistic journey began with a deep fascination with faces, inspired by the pre-medieval wooden masks of South Asia—particularly from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and India. This early influence evolved through the powerful imagery of the Mohenjo Daro and Harappa civilizations' stone statues, the terracotta faces of the Keeladi civilization, and the delicate clay figurines of the Porunai River civilization. Sri Lankan archaeology, in particular, has profoundly shaped my contemporary works, fueling my exploration of ancient forms and their relevance in today’s world. Traveling exhibitions to the Caribbean islands, with their stone faces from the Colombian period, and Japan, where I encountered the Haniwa Terracotta Dancers, further expanded my creative vision. My ongoing visits to the archaeological sites of Cyprus, including the captivating Chalcolithic figures, continue to inspire and guide my work, deepening my connection to ancient cultures and their timeless expressions.
