Tonnerre. La famille selon l’artiste VP. VasuhanL’artiste VP Vasuhan a rendu hommage à la famille à travers une performance, samedi, au square Anne-Sylvestre de Tonnerre. Une offrande sensorielle où l’argile, le fil, le sable, le curcuma et le charbon évoquent l’appartenance et le lien ancestral.

KOODU KUDUMPAM: Ties of the Hear
The exhibition’s title comes from the Tamil phrase “Koodu Kudumpam,” which loosely translates to “joint family.” It’s a term that once defined village life across much of South Asia—a life where cousins, aunts, grandparents, and grandchildren all shared a single household, shaped by shared meals, chores, and traditions.
In Ties of the Heart, Vasuhan turns this idea into a visual and spatial experience. His paintings and sculptures carry scenes many who’ve grown up in rural communities will instantly recognize: elders on the veranda, children playing barefoot in the dust, pots simmering in open-air kitchens. But it’s not a romanticized look back. The work acknowledges change—the move from villages to cities, the shrinking of families, the loss of oral tradition. |

by Sutharshi Jjereen Ignatuius It was such an honor to be part of a performance at the opening of Tamil artist VP. Vasuhan's gallery show in Tonnerre - Bourgogne, close to Paris. Vasuhan a contemporary visual artist of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage, creates evocative works that explore identity, displacement, nature, civilization and ethnic conflict through mixed media, collage, paintings, and installations. Drawing on materials from his travels and heritage—sand, seashells, driftwood, and spices—his art reflects a deeply humanistic approach rooted in memory and geography. I was inspired by how he uses his practice to share Tamil culture and history with the world. For me, being an artist is not about money or fame, but about creating arts for people, telling stories, and sharing humanity—and that spirit was fully alive in both the performance and the exhibit.
